BUHARI'S ANTI-CORRUPTION ON THE GLOBAL STAGE...... By Dotun George

President Muhammadu Buhari will join 50 other world leaders at a landmark international anti-corruption summit called by Prime Minister David Cameron in London on 10th of May, 2016.

The “Anti-Corruption Summit London 2016” will bring together world leaders, business and the civil society to agree a package of practical steps to:

1. Expose corruption so there is nowhere to hide;
2. Punish the perpetrators and support those affected by corruption;
3. Drive out the culture of corruption wherever it exists;
4. And put in place infrastructure and tools that can be used by international organisations, countries and national institutions to fight corruption.

My Take as a citizen of this country and a social crusader on corruption has not change. Until corruption is dealt with Nigeria will not get out of the quagmire and retrogressive movement. The whole world who had seen Nigeria as the most corrupt country in the world, will now begin to see Nigeria as an emerging nation with so many prospect because an anti corruption crusader is in charge now.

I am of the strong conviction that increasing globalisation has made it difficult, if not impossible for stand-alone nations to combat corruption; that without global synergies against corruption, nations will fail in their efforts towards economic growth, maintaining security, reducing poverty and protecting the environment for their children. In the light of this, I want Mr President to seek support for anti-corruption capacity for our national institutions and the citizenship.

The international collaboration as regard corruption should be blocked. No nation of the world will no longer stand as a save haven for corruption and corrupt personalities from Nigeria. If home does not support corruption and abroad do not give encouragement to it, in no time, Nigeria will march over corruption and see the end of her enemies.

A source from government quarter revealed this to me that Mr. President has formulated a Nigerian position on how to end impunity for corruption and ensuring that those involved in grand corruption are brought to justice through the active enforcement of laws and restrictions. Equally in agreement with Cameron, he is making suggestions on ways of empowering those affected by corruption by ensuring that its proceeds are returned to those to those from whom they have been stolen.

Nigeria will rise, bounce back and become great again. Any government that will fight corruption to a standstill will forever win my admiration and support. Go PMB and make us proud, don't be distracted just because of my children and generation yet unborn, so they can all see a nation they will be proud enough to call their own.
